We
frequently provide the National War and Resistance museum in Overloon
with a Living History display.
The museum has a lovely wartime living room setup that our actors
inhabit as if it was their own.
With the help of many items from our own collection, a radio that
broadcasts a real war time radio program, our actors succeed in recreating
the past.
Many elderly visitors get very excited when they enter the living
room, they feel like stepping back in time.
"Oh my mother had her hair just like you have it dear!"
"Remember those pants? Gosh how we used to hate those!"
It is fantastic to see people who really lived trough that era to
be so enthusiastic about what we do there.
The museum lets us use
bicycles with real wooden tires, we cycle trough the park, handing
out underground newspapers and talking to a eager audience.
Especially children are very interested in what we do, they find us
more interesting then what is in the cabinets, they can touch the
things we bring.
We let them climb into the hiding place, listen to our radio, we also
activate their imagination by asking them to imagine what it would
be like if they had to hide from German soldiers, walk around with
a ID card, etc.
The Overloon museum is
one of our regular settings and we always enjoy returning there.
